The 4th Annual Cinco de Mayo Trail Run event, expected to draw 1,000 participants, is organized by the Valley Elementary Educational Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax deductible.
The event was launched to raise money for Valley Elementary School, where 51% of our students come from low-income households. The Foundation’s mission is to bring together parents and community members to raise money to enrich the educational experience at Valley Elementary so that every child there can succeed. Money raised by the Foundation provides funding for enrichment programs; teacher, classroom and office supplies; technology; art; and physical education curriculum and staffing.
At the inaugural event in 2007, more than 330 runners, 80 volunteers, and 12 sponsors participated. This year, we expect to draw 1,000 participants.
We’re not only attracting active, health-conscious adults and families, but professional runners from throughout the region as well as firefighters, those serving in law enforcement and active-duty members of the military who will be honored in a special Heroes Heat. We’re featuring professional chip timing. We’re giving away more than $1,500 in prize money. We’re adding a 10K distance and incorporating multiple heats in the 5K distance. And we’ve teamed up with several other schools from throughout Poway, Rancho Bernardo and Rancho Peñasquitos to benefit more children.
We hope to see you out on the trail!
